Colin Farrell is set to go from detecting to obliviating.
Fresh off his run on HBO's "True Detective," the Irish actor has been cast in the Harry Potter spinoff, "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them," according to the Hollywood Reporter.
Farrell joins a magical cast that already includes Eddie Redmayne as the movie's hero Newt Scamander and Katherine Waterston.
The movie, the first installment of a planned trilogy, is based on a fake textbook dreamed up by J.K. Rowling.
According to the report, he'll play a wizard named Graves in the saga that's set in New York City 70 years before Harry Potter was born. "Fantastic Beasts" is being scripted by J.K. Rowling herself and is the first installment of a planned trilogy.
Inspired by a Hogwarts textbook title of the same name, written by the fictional Scamander, the story is billed by Rowling as "neither a prequel nor a sequel to the Harry Potter series, but an extension of the wizarding world."
