CAGNEY: The Revolutionary Musical!

RIKI KANE LARIMER PRESENTS THE HIT NEW MUSICAL "CAGNEY" BOOK BY PETER COLLEY MUSIC & LYRICS BY ROBERT CREIGHTON AND CHRISTOPHER MCGOVERN DIRECTED BY BILL CASTELLINO CHOREOGRAPHY BY JOSHUA BERGASSE MUSIC DIRECTION BY MATT PERRI AT THE WESTSIDE THEATRE

STARRING ROBERT CREIGHTON AS THE LEGENDARY JAMES CAGNEY

WITH JEREMY BENTON, DANETTE HOLDEN, BRUCE SABATH, JOSH WALDEN AND ELLEN ZOLEZZI

OUR REVIEW: This is a show that you must see! It's a back-in-time musical. The music numbers are perfectly orchestrated and performed with a flexible and impeccable cast that changes from one character to the other with talent. The concept is extremely well invented knowing the difficult task to bring to life (and on stage) a legend such as the one of Mr Cagney. But that bet is won with creativity and genius of the production and the direction. The dance numbers including taps are breathtaking. One of our best moments was to witness the recreation of James Cagney filming his best and most epic scenes. The result is beyond your New York expectations. Never a musical could be so entertaining and informing as well. All the cast deserve kudos for their first-class performance. A special bravo to the lead actor Mr Creighton who portrays Mr Cagney with perfection. During the opening night, in a sold-out performance, and after, a well-deserved standing ovation, it is safe to say that if Mr. Cagney himself had been in the audience, he would have been very pleased to see his legacy being treated with such intelligence. Go to this unique musical experience! We sincerely hope that CAGNEY will move to Broadway since the level of this production is far above any Off-Broadway musical ever produced.

New York, NY – Give their regards to Broadway! Producer Riki Kane Larimer (Fiddler on the Roof, Tappin’ Thru Life, On The Town, Gigi), presents the new hit Off-Broadway musical, Cagney with a book by Peter Colley (The Donnelly) and music & lyrics by Robert Creighton and Christopher McGovern (Fame, First Wives Club). Performances began March 16, 2016, for an open-ended engagement at The Westside Theatre - Upstairs (407 West 43rd Street). Opening Night is Sunday afternoon, April 3, 2016, at 3:00 p.m.

Directed by Bill Castellino (Storyville, Jolson), and with choreography by Joshua Bergasse (On The Town, Gigi), and music direction by Matt Perri (Finding Neverland, Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella), the six-member cast stars Broadway veteran and hoofer Robert Creighton (The Mystery of Edwin Drood, Anything Goes, The Lion King) as the legendary James Cagney, with Jeremy Benton (42nd Street), Danette Holden (Annie), Bruce Sabath (Company), Josh Walden (Ragtime), and Ellen Zolezzi (Seussical).

Cagney, a dramatic new musical, follows the life of the legendary James Cagney from the streets of New York to his rise from a vaudeville song-and-dance man to one of the brightest stars of Hollywood as the original tough guy. Broadway’s Robert Creighton, in the role he was born to play, leads a cast of six who tap dance through a score that blends original music with classic George M. Cohan favorites: Give My Regards To Broadway, You’re A Grand Old Flag, and Yankee Doodle Dandy. Cagney received its New York premiere at The York Theatre Company, last spring, where it played a limited five-week sold-out engagement.

The creative team includes James Morgan (set), Martha Bromelmeier (costumes), Michael Gilliam (lights), Janie Bullard (sound), Mark Pirolo (projections), Larry Lelli (music coordinator), and Christian Kelly-Sordelet and Rick Sordelet (fight directors). The Production Stage Manager is Larry Smiglewski. Carol Hanzel is the Casting Director and Brierpatch Productions provides General Management.

Cagney will play the following performance schedule: Tuesday at 7:00 p.m., Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. & 8:00 p.m., Thursday & Friday at 8:00 p.m., Saturday at 2:00 p.m. & 8:00 p.m. and Sunday at 3:00 p.m.
