Legendary Israeli actor Sasson Gabay (Band’s Visit) to be honored for Lifetime Achievement at the NY

Legendary Israeli actor Sasson Gabay (Band’s Visit) to be honored for Lifetime Achievement at the NY Sephardic Jewish Film Festival on March 11th 2019 at 7pm.

The 22nd edition of the NY Sephardic Jewish Film Festival will award Mr Gabay with the Pomegranate Award for Screen and Stage Lifetime Achievement. Mr Gabay is now starring in the Band's Visit on Broadway, opposing Katerina Lenk (Tony Award for Best Actress) who will attend the ceremony among others cast members and producer Orin Wolf. Important dignitaries and diplomats will also attend. The Ceremony will include a Q&A with Sasson Gabay moderated by David Serero (Producer of the NY Sephardic Jewish Film Festival).

The Pomegranate Award, sculpted by Iraqi artist Oded Halahmy, will be dedicated in the memory of the actress Ronit Elkabetz, who received the Pomegranate Award in 2012, and co-starred with Mr Gabay in the Band's Visit original film.

The Award Ceremony will include the screening of Israeli TV series Stockholm (US Premiere) starring Sasson Gabay, directed by Daniel Syrkin. When a renowned economist is found dead in his bed, his friends decide to hide his death for five days, enough time to allow him to win the coveted Nobel Prize in Economics. Determined to retain some integrity for their friend, while also gaining, by proxy, some notoriety for themselves, the plan threatens to unravel in a nail-biting, hysterical, thoughtful, not-to-be missed popular series with an all-star cast: Sasson Gabay (THE BAND’S VISIT), Doval’e Glickman, Gidi Gov, and Tikva Dayan.

The New York Sephardic Jewish Film Festival (NYSJFF), hosted by the American Sephardi Federation, announces its action-packed program featuring 12 NY US, and World première films, 10 special appearances by filmmakers, and 6 Pomegranate Awards recognizing Sephardi excellence in the arts. This special celebration of the diversity of Jewish experiences features narratives and documentaries, comedies and critical perspectives, with films touching on communities in Morocco, France, Spain, Tunisia, Egypt, Israel, Syria, and Iraq.
