Opera NABUCCO to come Off-Broadway in May 2019 starring David Serero as Nabucco


The opera NABUCCO, by Giuseppe Verdi, to be performed Off-Broadway this May. Opera Star baritone DAVID SERERO to perform NABUCCO’s title role for 6 unique performances at the Center for Jewish History, New York, along with world-renowned soloists.

Nabucco, the iconic Verdi opera, will be presented in 2019 at the Center for Jewish History (15 W. 16 St.) in New York City, presented by the American Sephardi Federation.

NABUCCO - Giuseppe Verdi's renowned opera about the Babylonian Jews exile during Biblical times - will perform May 10th to June 2nd, 2019; Baritone David Serero will star as the title role of Nabucco, with Leslie Swanson (Abigaille), Javier Ortiz (Zaccaria), Michael Celentano (Ismaele), and Robin Bradley (Fenena).

Performances are:

May 10th (3pm) May 15h (8pm) - Opening Night - Followed by After Party. May 17th (3pm) May 22nd (8pm) May 29th (8pm) June 2nd (6pm) - Closing Night - Followed by After Party.

DAVID SERERO - Nabucco

Actor and baritone, David Serero, has received international recognition and critical acclaim from all over the world. At 37 years old, he has already performed more than 2,000 concerts and performances throughout the world and played in over 100 films, and recorded 20 albums. He entered the prestigious WHO'S WHO AMERICA for demonstrating outstanding achievements in the entertainment world and for the betterment of contemporary society. David Serero is a member of the RECORDING ACADEMY - GRAMMYs and of the TELEVISION ACADEMY and a voting member of the Emmys.

He has given concerts in Paris at the PARIS OPERA GARNIER, OLYMPIA, EIFFEL TOWER; in New York at the LINCOLN CENTER, CARNEGIE HALL, TIMES SQUARE; in London at the ROYAL COLLEGE OF MUSIC, WEMBLEY STADIUM; and in Moscow at the TCHAIKOVSKY HALL; in Amsterdam at the CONCERTGEBOUW, the BUDAPEST OPERA conducted by PLACIDO DOMINGO and more. He made his sold-out WEST END debuts at the Dominion Theatre. He has sung more than 30 lead roles in Opera, Operetta, and Musical Theater. In 2012, David Serero performed Don Quixote from MAN OF LA MANCHA in Paris and the title role from the revival of Duke Ellington's only musical: BEGGAR'S HOLIDAY and also starred in the cast album recording. In 2013, David performed with JERMAINE JACKSON in YOU ARE NOT ALONE, a musical written, directed, and produced by David Serero. He has also produced and arranged I WISH YOU LOVE an album of Jazz standards for Jermaine Jackson. In December 2013, David shared the cover of Theatre & Performances with Barbra Streisand in London and made his BROADWAY solo debut at the Snapple Theatre in New York. In 2015 and 2016, he played Off-Broadway the lead roles of SHYLOCK (MERCHANT OF VENICE) and OTHELLO's title role with both critical acclaims. In 2015, he performed two open-air concerts on TIMES SQUARE (New York) for BEST OF FRANCE with the presence of the French President Mr. Francois Hollande. He also played NABUCCO (Nabucco) in New York; and the title roles of DON GIOVANNI and RIGOLETTO at the CARNEGIE HALL. In his extensive discography, he has recorded Cast Album Recording of iconic roles such as Shakespeare's RICHARD III and World Premiere adaptations. In 2017, David entered the prestigious WHO'S WHO AMERICA for demonstrating outstanding achievements in the entertainment world and for the betterment of contemporary society. In 2018, David Serero becomes a member of the Recording Academy - GRAMMYs and a voting member for the Grammy's.

During the 2017/2018 season in New York, David Serero starred as CYRANO DE BERGERAC (Rostand), DON GIOVANNI (Mozart), BARABAS (Marlowe's Jew of Malta), KING AHASUERUS (from musical Queen Esther's Dilemma), KING LEAR (Jacob Gordin's The YIDDISH KING LEAR), NAPOLEON's title role from NAPOLEON by Stanley Kubrick.

For the 2018/19 season in New York, David will star as NABUCCO's title role, ROMEO (Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet in a Jewish adaptation), FIGARO (Mozart's Marriage of Figaro), and OTTO FRANK (Anne Frank, a Musical).

LESLIE SWANSON - Abigaille

Leslie Swanson, Soprano, is proud to be making her debut in the production of Nabucco for the Center for Jewish History. A native New Yorker, she has brought life to such characters as Gertrude (Hansel and Gretel), Amelia (Un Ballo in Maschera), Georgette (Il Tabarro) and Lady Billows (Albert Herring). Much of her work is done with the renowned Bronx Opera Company, and she has also collaborated with Hudson Lyric Opera and Chelsea Opera.

Equally, at home on the concert stage, she has been a guest soloist with orchestras of the NY metropolitan area, including Collegium Westchester and Orchestra of the Bronx. A lover of the dramatic arts, Leslie has also performed several leading roles in theater and musical comedy including Bloody Mary in South Pacific with Lehman Stages, and Hermia in Dead Man’s Cell Phone with the Outrageous Fortune Company.

An avid recitalist, Leslie will, in June, continue her exploration of great art songs, known and unknown, from around the world.

JAVIER ORTIZ - Zaccaria

Bass-Baritone Javier Ortiz has been engaged as a Resident Artist at Opera North, the Dutch Opera Studio, and Sarasota Opera, and his performed repertoire consists of nearly 30 opera roles and 15 major concert works. He appears regularly with various regional orchestras and opera companies. Internationally, Javier has portrayed Sarastro in Die Zauberflöte with the Amsterdam Symphony Orchestra, performed in a concert of arias at the famous Concertgebouw, sung at duet for the 25th Anniversary Jubilee of the Netherlands Opera's residence in the Muziektheater, and played the role of Colline in La Boheme at the Rotterdam Opera Days. Recently, Javier toured Mexico with the Chicago Arts Orchestra, sang the Sprecher in The Magic Flute with Connecticut Lyric Opera, and joined Opera Southwest as Narciso in the world premiere of the opera Bless Me, Ultima, based on the famous novel.

MICHAEL CELENTANO - Ismaele

Michael Celentano (tenor) is a former young artist at Tri-Cities Opera in Binghamton, NY. Recent appearances include Max in Bronx Opera’s production of Der Freischütz, Miner in La Fanciulla del West, and Ensemble in L’Amore de tre Re, both with New York City Opera. Upcoming performances include Ismaele in Nabucco with David Serero Productions and Ensemble for The Metropolitan Opera's upcoming 2019 production of Götterdämmerung.

ROBIN BRADLEY - Fenena

Praised for her “very colorful, interesting and beautiful instrument” Mezzo Soprano Robin Bradley has performed in venues across the nation. Recent professional highlights include singing Tisbe in La Cenerentola with Winter Opera Saint Louis, Lois Lane in Kiss Me, Kate with Pittsburgh Festival Opera, and the title role in Chicago Fringe Opera's The Rape of Lucretia. As a Young Artist, she covered the title role in Carmen with Cedar Rapids Opera Theatre as well as covering The Marquise of Birkenfeld in La fille du régiment with Martina Arroyo's Prelude to Performance Program. Since 2016, Ms. Bradley has had three contracts with the Lyric Opera of Chicago's world-renowned chorus, singing in the ensembles of Berlioz's Les Troyens, Puccini's Turandot, and Bellini's I Puritani. Ms. Bradley has also served as a company apprentice of Flamenco Chicago, the professional company of acclaimed dancer and choreographer Rosetta Magdalen.​
