The Inffinito Festival Circuit celebrates its 100th edition and announces its Program

From August 19 to September 29, the event will screen more than 100 Brazilian films for American audiences. It will feature concerts by Alcione and Larissa Luz at the SummerStage in Central Park and by Fernanda Abreu at the Miami Beach Bandshell.

Inffinito has just announced the selection of films for the Inffinito Brazilian Film Festival, the largest Brazilian film festival abroad; this year, it celebrates the 100th edition of festivals held worldwide. Between August 19th and September 29th, over 100 films will be shown to North American audiences (see below for the complete list), featuring the best of Brazilian audiovisual productions. The event begins with the 17th edition in New York and the 28th edition of the Inffinito Brazilian Film Festival in Miami. In other North American cities, the public can follow the Inffinito Brazilian Film Festival on the Inff—online streaming platform.


The competitive screenings will feature the following films: “Traces of Love,” by Pedro Antônio; “My Name is Gal,” by Dandara Ferreira and Lô Politi; “Aunt Virgínia,” by Fábio Meira; “Heavier is the Sky,” by Petrus Cariry; “The Sound of the Night,” by Eva Pereira; “The Hijacking of Flight 375”, by Marcus Baldini; “Great Sertão,” by Guel Arraes, and the unreleased “Cheers to Life!”, by Cris D'Amato. In addition to the competitive short film screenings, the venue will host a special guest screening of “My Sister and I” by Susana Garcia. Silverspot Cinema Downtown Miami will host the hors concours feature film - “Turn It Up; It’s Rock’n Roll, by Tomás Portella, which is produced by this year's edition ́s honoree, Renata Almeida Magalhães.


Held by producers Adriana L. Dutra, Cláudia Dutra, and Viviane B. Spinelli since 1997 in 14 cities (Miami, New York, Vancouver, Barcelona, Madrid, London, Rome, Frascati, Milan, Bogotá, Montevideo, Buenos Aires, Shanghai and, in Brazil, Canudos), the Inffinito Brazilian Film Festival is the main gateway for Brazilian productions into the North and Latin American markets. This year, the festival will pay tribute to producer Renata Almeida Magalhães, president of the Brazilian Film Academy and the first woman to hold this position, with screenings dedicated to her productions, including films such as “5x Favela – Now by Ourselves”, “God is Brazilian”, “Tieta” and others.


17th Inffinito Brazilian Film Festival - New York August 19 to 24

The 17th edition of Inffinito Brazilian Film Festival - New York begins with the Visit Rio market event on August 19 and ends on August 24. On August 22, Alcione, revered in Brazil and abroad, and Larissa Luz, a firm representative of the Afropunk movement, will perform the opening show. Brazilian culture will be celebrated at SummerStage, Central Park, the New York stage known for hosting free concerts by internationally renowned artists. Both will be making their first appearances on this stage, representing the timeless and universal qualities of Brazilian music, which, with an unmistakable swagger, establishes a dialogue with audiences from different nations.


Before the concert, the audience will enjoy an outdoor screening of the movie Gerson King Combo, directed by David Obadia. The documentary tells the story of Gerson King Combo, known as the "Brazilian James Brown," opening the doors to his life and work and revealing the showman's magnetic personality and intimacy.


The screenings will occur in Brooklyn following the show, with free admission screenings on the 23rd and 24th. On the first day, the classic Herbert Von King Cultural Arts Center will host "Biocentrics" by Fernanda Heinz Figueiredo and Ataliba Benaim, and "Great Sertão" by Guel Arraes. On the 24th, the festival continues with "Black Rio! Black Power!" by Emílio Domingos and "My Name is Gal" by Dandara Ferreira and Lô Politi.


28th Inffinito Brazilian Film Festival - Miami August 30 to September 7

The 28th Inffinito Brazilian Film Festival—Miami arrives in Florida on August 30th with screenings at O Cinema South Beach. The program begins with the American premiere of Paulo Machline's “Magal & Magali,” followed by a Q&A with the director and the film's producer, Joana Mariani.

On August 31, Fernanda Abreu will rock the Festival audience at the Miami Beach BandShell with her Amor Geral show.


The O Cinema South Beach will host the competitive feature and short film screenings starting September 1. The films will compete for the “Crystal Lens” trophy, which the audience and the Festival's official jury will award to the winners. The categories evaluated in the competitive screening will be Best Film, Best Director, Best Screenplay, Best Cinematography, Best Actor, and Best Actress. The audience will serve as the jury for the festival in the categories of Best Feature Film and Best Short Film. The awards ceremony will be held on Sept 7 at the Silverspot Cinema, known for having the largest movie screen in Florida. The venue offers an immersive experience by screening the Hors Concours film, "Turn It Up, It’s Rock N' Roll," by Tomás Portella.


Inffinito Brazilian Film Festival streaming September 8 to 29

To promote Brazilian cinema to the international market and celebrate the country's diversity and representativeness, the Festival will also be hosting online screenings. From September 8 to 29, virtual screenings of Brazilian films from all over the United States will be on the streaming platform www.inff.online.


Adriana L. Dutra, Ricardo Cota, Liliana Kawase, Laura Fernandes, Cavi Borges, Viviane B. Spinelli, Karina Mello, and Raphael Alvarez curate the festival. This year, the Festival celebrates the milestone of 200 years of diplomatic relations between Brazil and the United States.
