Sunday, February 12, 2023 - EGYPTIAN DAY:

14:00 Screening of the film "ADIEU BONAPARTE" by Youssef Chahine in a restored version.

Be sure to attend the conference below attached to the film.

17:00 Conference "NAPOLEON, EGYPT AND ISLAM" by Ahmed Youssef.

In "Adieu Bonaparte" by the great Egyptian director Youssef Chahine, Bonaparte (played by Patrice Chéreau) is dressed in the Oriental style and attends the Mouloud feast of the prophet. Behind the image are questions about his relationship with Islam and the myth of his conversion to this religion. But the Egyptian campaign is a gigantic site of exploration of ancient Egypt, and 160 scientists will tackle it in terrible conditions. They will transform Bonaparte's famous parable "from the top of these Pyramids, 40 centuries are contemplating you" into an incredible operation to rediscover this country. Result: projects that will change the face of international trade, such as the project to collect the Suez Canal and the discovery of the Rosetta Stone. The internationally renowned Franco-Egyptian historian, Ahmed Youssef draws us to the contours of this incredible adventure of Bonaparte. It also answers the question, "what remains of Bonaparte today in the Arab world"?

19:00 Ceremony and presentation of the NAPOLEON PRIZE.

A ceremony to reward Jacques-Olivier Boudon, Ahmed Youssef, (and others) for their work on Napoleon as well as in the world of arts and culture.
