The Film-Makers’ Cooperative announces its eleventh-annual benefit concert of live avant-garde sound

The Film-Makers’ Cooperative announces its eleventh-annual benefit concert of live avant-garde soundtracks and expanded cinema performances, featuring Philip Glass, John Zorn, Elliot Sharp, Vijay Lyer, and more.

The evening will begin with an Award and Tribute to artist-filmmaker, Carolee Schneemann, for her contribution to the cinematic arts and her generosity within the experimental film community.

English actress, Cara Seymour, will MC the event.

DATE AND TIME: Tuesday, June 19th, 2018. Doors open at 6:30PM

LOCATION: 327 Bowery, New York, NY 10003 / Bowery Electric

The eleventh-annual benefit concert is presented by FMC’s Benefactor, Charles S. Cohen, and FMC’s Board of Directors. It will take place on Tuesday, June 19th, starting at 7:00PM at the Bowery Electric (327 Bowery). Tickets are $50 and are available online through Ticket Fly or at the door.

The line-up of musicians includes: Philip Glass with Wolf Glass and Cameron Glass / John Zorn / Elliott Sharp / Vijay Iyer / Transgendered Jesus / Optipus and Zero Times Everything.

Each musician will perform live to a selection of films from FMC’s collection of 16mm film prints, creating soundtracks and expanded cinema performances that are likely never to be seen again. All of the proceeds from the event will support FMC’s core activities, namely enhancing the distribution of artist-made film and video works in the Coop’s growing archive.

Founded in 1961 by a collective of artists and filmmakers, the Film-Makers’ Cooperative / New American Cinema Group is the world’s oldest and largest artist-run collection of avant-garde, experimental cinema. Under the stewardship of MM Serra, the group continues to restore, archive, and distribute more than 5,000 titles and has recently partnered with Fandor to digitally stream films from the collection. As an active participant in the art community, FMC offers educational workshops and produces weekly screenings, gallery exhibitions, and art auctions. Artists and estates maintain creative control of their works as FMC is a non-contractual, non-exclusive, membership-based, not-for-profit group.
